Though Oracle cards may be thought similar to the Tarot, this is very wrong. Tarot cards can tell you both sides of a situation, including past, present, and naturally, the future. They provide the reader with a slightly more overall reading with details slightly hidden. Oracle readings tend to take out most of the guess work that can come along with the Tarot. With their straight forwardness, some decks can be for a set purpose (like how the one I frequently use is specifically for helping to piece together past lives).
Reading Oracle:
Before beginning, many would say to consecrate the cards in some way, or to sleep with the cards under your bed or one at a time under your pillow so that they can...adjust to you; or let it know that they are "yours". In my experience this is not necessarily required, and I don't really follow this process because I believe that it could in fact tamper with the deck in a negative way, making them feel more like a tool, less like a partner. Always remember when working with any "object", you work with them, they don't work for you.
First of course, one shuffles the deck. If while shuffling the cards, one gives off an energy change that the others do not exhibit, remove this said card from the others, and keep it to the side face down. These cards are just as important as the ones you pull during the main part of the reading; and will be the cards to provide the details to the reading as a whole. You stop shuffling either till the cards stick together, making it harder to shuffle (this is them telling you enough is enough), or till you simply feel is right.
When it comes to the main process of reading, the format is a lot less structured than that of the tarot. An instruction manual, that normally comes with the deck, will normally tell you that the first card is the past, second future, third present (or some other order), this does not need to be the case. Set the cards where they tell you they should be. Lay out the deck, spreading the cards out so that none remain buried. Selecting cards can be different depending on the person. For me, a card that needs to be pulled will give off an electric charge, some may feel heat or have the gut feeling to pull a specific card. Follow this gut feeling. The number of cards you pull does not need to be set either, the bigger the reading, the more cards you'll pick from the deck. Don't forget to turn over the "detail cards" that you previously may have set to the side, as the can be crucial in tying together the reading, or singling out the different parts and separating them creating the illusion of their being more than one reading.Sometimes the cards may not make sense when reading them in the way they were exactly laid out, occasionally making it seem like a fun little puzzle.
